‘Taming the Beast’ – illustration by Ai Hasegawa

The Wandering Jew was condemned to walk the earth until the second coming. He roamed from land to land, an original gypsy. The name on his passport was Ashwatthama. When he arrived at the borders of the city, he banged upon the door in the corrugated tin wall. “Yes?” came a voice from the other side of the door. “I am the Wandering Jew. Please let me in.” There was a pause, before the voice replied. “Answer me this; Why did the knight slay the dragon?” “Because he was afraid,” said the Jew. “Time has no borders,” said the voice, and the door opened slightly. “You are free to die.”
